The attic has been converted into a light, spacious loft apartment which has its own entrance via an outdoor staircase as well as a door into the rest of the house. The two floors below her are used to provide shelter to girls who're homeless or just need a place to stay for very low rent. Usually they're employees of hers, but she has been known to help out friends of theirs too. She only asks that they keep their space clean, the house quiet and don't bring clients there - if they don't like the rules they're free to leave. Finance: Quite nice these days actually. History: Charlotte doesn't really remember her real parents. She was placed in a foster home quite young in a house with 4 other children, and did very well until she was 12. After that her family had to give her and her foster brothers and sisters up because her mother (Naomi) had always had health problems and her father (Derek) was diagnosed with cancer. The second family she was moved to wasn't so happy. She was never subjected to extreme abuse, but her new father had a temper and she was hit a few times. She was moved from there to another home where things were happier but after six months she was moved to a fourth placement (at the age of 14) where she was all but ignored in a house of six children. She helped the younger ones where she could, trying to balance taking care of the house and family with school. At 16 she dropped out of school to try and earn a living and keep up with helping the family. An older foster brother, Tommy, introduced her to a friend of his, and after a few weeks of story we won't go into, she had sex for the first time. For money. She hated it, but was able to bring in enough by doing it once or twice a week after that to keep everyone afloat. One thing that kept her going was a Spanish neighbour who taught her piano from the age of 15 in return for doing her shopping and running a few errands. Charlotte proved to be a fast learner musically, and loved this escape from the rest of her life. Just before she turned 18 the younger children were re-house and Tommy was old enough to leave (so he did). So she didn't feel any guilt in leaving herself. She got a job working in a library, but quickly got bored, wanting to do more with her life, so she went to school and completed her GED. College though, would need money. Reluctantly, she got back in touch with a few friends she'd made while working as a prostitute, and one of them tipped her off to escorting. You could earn just as much, and you didn't always need to have sex. Charlotte took to it well, her naturally social personality and love for learning things by herself making her a good companion. Escort work put her through college and she found she actually didn't mind it. As she got higher status within her agency she had some level of choice over her clients which improved things, but at the same time she met a lot of girls who were doing it because they had to, and a lot who were just straight up prostitutes, often strung out on drugs and desperate. Social services were rarely any help for girls like this, even the young ones who just ran at the first hint of a social worker. After giving it some thought she dropped her intention of a music major to a minor, and majored in business instead. Not her favourite subject ever, but after four years study (with part time escort and part time working at a small local music school) she got her degree. She spent the next three years saving up as much as she could and making contacts, then set up her own escorting agency. Her main purpose was to provide a clean, safe environment for girls to work in. No drugs, no abuse, and no sex if that's not what they wanted. As well as running the agency she still sees a few clients herself sometimes, just the ones she chooses, but the income from both helped her save up to buy the house she lives in, where she can also provide shelter for girls who need it. She has absolutely no moral problem with her line of work, as long as everyone involved is safe and consenting. She gave them an air of respectibility and they gave her the ability to see more of the universe. She got caught up in a few of their... situations, but generally was able to conduct her business reasonably well. Falling for Mal was kind of bad for business though, so she eventually left before being forced to call him into a trap (which he knew was a trap but went anyway). She ended up back with them, working out the Miranda conspiracy and helping to broadcast the truth.
